Leila Lawton

  • Leila Lawton is a Mum of four, an accredited Specialist Senior Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist. Her passion for people and inclusive clinical and research practice has been cultivated through 20 years combined experience working with culturally diverse clients. This includes expertise in providing tree of life therapies.

    Leila has co-written, developed and delivered Race Identity and Me workshops within NHS taking therapies services. She has had significant success working with adults with both common mental health problems and severe mental illness. This involves treating racial trauma, managing micro aggressions, panic, phobias, post-traumatic stress, depression, health anxiety, social anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, body dysmorphia and psychosis.

    Leila has lived experience as a carer for others with mental health needs. She is committed to developing solutions through education to address systemic and structural racism.

  • Leila’s therapeutic and research specialisms include anti-racism, racial trauma, Post Traumatic Stress, Culturally Congruent Psychotherapies, intersectionality, power & whiteness.

  • I’m inspired by the creativity in nature and people, working therapeutically also allows me the privilege of sharing in a client’s journey of self-discovery and growth. It is an ultimate honour to support people to reconnect with hope and find purpose in pain. My own experiences of overcoming adversity shape my ability to make meaningful connections.

  • Leila enjoys going for long nature walks, spending time with her family, going to church, singing with her choir, listening to podcasts, reading, and writing short stories.
