Shirley Robinson

  • I am a fully qualified and richly experienced Integrative Counsellor. I work in both private practice and in partnership with wellbeing organisations.

I possess many years of professional experience, both pre and post qualification, as a counsellor-psychotherapist.

Having undertaken client-facing and leadership roles in the statutory and 3rd sector; I have lived experience of navigating the workplace as a minoritised Black woman in  professional spaces. Perhaps, I have been where you are.

As a counsellor, I aim to work in creative and culturally expansive ways, seeking always to avoid constricting our work together into a Eurocentric landscape. All of who you are is welcome here.

It is my belief that in our emotional world  everything is connected. Therefore,  no issue is too big or too small to bring to my counselling room. Together, we seek out the connections and identity any blockages which may be hindering your progress towards your personal and professional goals.

I offer you an open mind, gentle curiosity and my commitment to apply my full attention and skills to your concerns. It is my hope and intention that we build a safe and trusting counselling relationship, in which we work in partnership, steadily progressing towards your desired outcomes.

I started my working life as an administrator,  in what was then The Department of Health and Social Security.  It was here that my passion for social justice developed.

It was whilst in this role that I undertook my first counselling training course, which led to a change of professional direction. I volunteered with two projects, one involved mentoring at risk young people and the other was helping out in a nightshelter for young people who were rough sleeping.

That nightshelter was the start of a long career in the homelessness sector. I worked in a variety of roles over the decades, including: project worker, peer educator, nightshelter manager, head of employment academy.

I qualified as a Counsellor in 2017 and  have been working as a Counsellor-psychotherapist full-time since 2019. It is here that my passion for social justice has found its rightful home. What greater justice can be witnessed, than when walking alongside others on their journey to their best self?

  • I am endlessly inspired by my fellow humans and their capacity to grow and change.

  • I love the outdoors and enjoy cycling and walking.

I also absolutely adore most activities that involve sweet sweet revival reggae music.
